Rescue Pets
Never in a million years did I think I would turn into a pet person. I hadn’t grown up with pets and being licked and pawed at had always made me uncomfortable. I wrote “had” because one day I was fortunate enough to visit the local humane society with my daughter. As we toured the facility, we learned that many of the dogs and cats are eventually euthanized because there weren’t enough homes willing to take them in.
This, of course, greatly upset my daughter, but to my surprise, it upset me too. The very next day we started the paper work to adopt one dog and one cat. They were in our lives for many years until they passed away. I keep the ashes of my furry children in handcrafted pet urns placed on our mantle. I may not have thought I’d ever be a pet person, but I am so grateful that I became one.
It’s Hard to Say Goodbye
When my dog Sam died I was beside myself. Sam came into my life when my children were small. I watched him grow up alongside my children and they treated him just like another sibling. When my kids went off to university, Sam was my constant companion.
He led a full, long life, much longer than the average age of his breed. In the end he was very ill so I had to make the difficult decision to put him down. When he passed it felt as though my heart had been ripped out. I didn’t know what to do with his ashes, but fortunately a friend stepped forward and brought me a beautiful handcrafted pet urn to store Sam’s ashes. I keep him on a shelf in my bedroom with a little picture beside the urn to remind me of our happy times together.
Letting Go of Your Pet
Letting go of a pet is always difficult, and everybody needs to deal with this traumatic loss in their own time. It really just depends on the person. Some people are able to cope relatively quickly, while others take more time to deal with the issue. For people that feel like they need closure, there are many options available. For one, you can put together a scrap book of all your favorite photos with the pet. That way, you can relive all the good times and have a beautiful keepsake for yourself and others when all is said and done.
Another great way to secure closure is by cremating your pet and scattering the ashes in a special place. Or, if you want to always keep them close, you can choose instead to keep the ashes in a pet urn. Choose handmade urns or a marble pet urn for the perfect combination of aesthetics and sentimentality. The sleek design of the urn will be a tasteful, classic way to honor your lost pet while adding something beautiful to your home.
Preparation Is Important
For the vast majority of people, wills are the most important legal documents they will ever deal with. Whether you are deciding whom to bequeath your belongings to or allocating assets according the wishes of a lost loved one, wills are the vehicle for ensuring that descendants receive their share of a family’s assets. Unfortunately, many people neglect to draft their will, which can lead to confusion upon death.
When planning your will, it is important to develop a comprehensive list of your assets and those you wish to bestow your belongings to beforehand. This will ensure that nothing and nobody is forgotten. Many people also choose to set aside funds to cover funeral costs and other expenses, which can put a strain on family members. You need to decide if you are going to choose a funeral urn for cremation or a burial service.
Ceramic Urns
There are several different types of urns that you can choose from. One type of urn is a keepsake urns. Keepsake urns are small funeral urns that allow family members to keep a portion of the ashes. They are an option for family members who wish to share ashes with other family members.
Handmade urns are typically made out of clay or porcelain. These types of urns are very fragile. You need to take extra special care of these types of urns. It would be tragic if anything happened to it.
Keeping The Spirit Alive
It can be very sad when your loved one passes away. It doesn’t matter if it’s a grandmother or a long time pet. Deciding on what to do with your loved one is one thing that you don’t want to take lightly. Making it special is important to keep there spirit alive.
One way that you can make their passing memorable is by creating a handcrafted memorial urn. This gives a special touch to where your loved one will be kept. You are able to give it the same originality and personality that once was your loved one. It makes for a great memory of who they are and what they mean to you.
The Many Uses of Urns
An urn is a vase, usually covered and without handles, that usually has a narrowed neck above a footed pedestal. In more classic terms, an urn is a large decoratively covered container. Knife urns are placed on pedestal settings on a dining room sideboard. This was an English innovation for high-style dining rooms of the late 1760’s.
Another use for an urn is for a funerary purpose. These urns can be handcrafted. A handcrafted cremation urn can be used to store the ashes of your loved ones who have passed on. Urns can also be used as a decorative piece in your garden. Urns are also a common form of architectural detail.
Japanese Crematoriums in High Demand

Following the devastating earthquake and tsunami, crematoriums have been in high demand in Japan. Unfortunately, many of the crematoriums were damaged and working at a limited capacity. This has caused the government to bury the dead in mass graves.
The bodies are identified and placed in simple wooden coffins before being placed into mass graves. Government officials have assured surviving relatives that they will be able to exhume their loved ones at a later date for a traditional Buddhist cremation and burial ceremony. This is such a difficult time for the Japanese people. I sincerely hope that they will be able to cremate and bury their loved ones in handcrafted cremation urns; perhaps it will bring them some closure.
Burying a Child
No parent should ever have to bury their child. In my own family, a young cousin died in an in-home accident. The death was a blow to the entire extended family, but especially to my aunt, uncle, and grandparents.
Most members of our family are buried in the same section of the local cemetery, but my aunt couldn’t bear to be parted from my cousin. Instead, my young cousin’s body was cremated and we chose from one of several funeral urns to store her remains. Having the funeral urn in her home helped my aunt cope. She didn’t have to drive all the way to the cemetery to talk to her child; she could just walk into the living room and say whatever she needed to say.
