A Lasting Memorial

People spend several hours and thousands of dollars choosing a casket that will only be viewed for a few moments during the funeral ceremony. Often times, these caskets are adorned with ornate designs and exhibit beautiful craftsmanship, but unfortunately the family members only have a short time to pay their respects. An option for a more lasting tribute is housing your loved ones remains in an urn.
You can find exquisite handcrafted memorial urns that display a keen attention to detail and have craftsmanship that is akin to their casket counterparts. The main benefit of an urn is that you can keep it to display in your house. Not only is the receptacle a magnificent work of art, but it is also a constant reminder of the memory of those who have passed.
Rethinking the Traditional Funeral
Last week I attended the funeral of my great-grandmother. While funerals are often a time for mourning, as she was nearly 100 years old, her funeral was more of a celebration of her life. That being said, the whole ordeal definitely had a somber tone and took an emotional toll on everyone in the family.
As my immediate family and I were leaving the funeral, we agreed that we did not like the whole procession involved with the moving of the casket; my father and I were pallbearers, and there is something eerie about burying one of your loved ones in the ground like that. Personally, I would much rather have my remains placed in a handmade urn and have my ashes scattered around the wilderness near my home.
